Sandy Pine Elk Farm reopening with antique tractor rodeo

DEER GROVE - The Sandy Pine Elk Farm & Gift Store, 28650 Hahnaman Road, off state Route 40, is reopening for the season Thursday with an antique tractor rodeo and drive. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m.; the drive leaves at 9:15 a.m. They'll head to Tampico on Hahnaman Road, then go north about a mile on Tampico Road, east on Fargo, north on Luther for eight or nine miles to Gaulrapp Road, across to Ridge Road, then wind a mile or so up to Route 30, finally heading south back to the farm on Buell Road, elk rancher Matt Henriken said Monday.

There will be a stop halfway at a neighbor's farm for drinks and a restroom break at the halfway mark, and the whole trip, about 28 miles, will take two to three hours, followed by lunch at the farm, at noon or thereabouts.

The rodeo starts at 1 p.m., along with activities for kids, including a pedal pull and pedal tractor races at Sandy Pine Speedway. The event ends at 5 p.m.

There are no entry fees. Prizes will be awarded.

As of Thursday, elk tours will resume daily; the farm's hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays; and closed Sundays, through August.
