City to consider Polo Road improvements

GAZETTE STAFF STERLING - With new retail development slated for the east end of town, the city must prepare for its arrival. The city has agreed to make improvements to to 2,500 feet of Polo Road to accommodate the planned Sterling Commons Shopping Center north of Wal-Mart. The City Council will vote tonight whether to pay the design firm of Willett, Hoffman & Associates, Inc. to come up with the plan. If they vote yes, the city will pay the engineering firm just under $32,900 for the job. The construction will be done in three phsases and will include the installation of curbs and gutters, drainage improvements and paving from 30th Street south to Lincolnway. The city hopes to finish the improvements by 2009. The council will meet at 6:30 tonight in council chambers at 212 Third Ave.
