Crundwell doc to make TV premiere

DIXON – The documentary chronicling former city comptroller Rita Crundwell’s $53.7 million theft will make its TV premiere Thursday.

“All the Queen’s Horses” is about Crundwell’s theft across 2 decades that funded her quarterhorse breeding empire and lavish lifestyle before her arrest in 2012 in the largest municipal fraud in U.S. history.

Directed by Kelly Richmond Pope, an accounting professor at DePaul University who specializes in white collar crime, the documentary features interviews forensic accountants, government officials, attorneys and local residents in the cautionary tale that reminds viewers that fraud can happen anywhere.

It will air on the Public Broadcasting Service station WTTW at 8 p.m. Thursday and 3:18 a.m. Nov. 13. It will be on WTTW Prime at 6 a.m. and 2 p.m. Friday.

The film came to Dixon a few times for free showings at the Historic Dixon Theatre and a private screening at Crundwell’s former estate.

It ended a year’s run on Netflix in July and is available on a variety of platforms and providers including iTunes, Google Play, YouTube and Amazon Prime.
