Fins were flappin’ and fish were floppin’ Tuesday as Crystal Lake Fisheries of Ava, Missouri, pumped fish into the pond at Centennial Park in Rock Falls, ahead of the Oct. 19 start of Illinois’ fall trout fishing season. Workers have been busy stocking 57 ponds, lakes, and streams throughout the state with fish. The park pond is one of three spots in the Sauk Valley stocked with rainbow trout. The others are Hennepin Canal Parkway in Bureau County and Pine Creek in White Pines Forest State Park in Ogle County (Pine Creek is open for early season catch-and-release fly fishing). People can pick up a fishing license and trout stamps at DNR locations, bait shops, sporting goods stores and other retail outlets. Go to ifishillinois.org/programs/trout_stocking.html for locations, and more information on trout season.
