DUBUQUE, Iowa – A 52-year-old Sabula, Iowa man died Saturday after his motorcycle struck an embankment 35 miles south of Dubuque Saturday evening, according to the Iowa State Patrol.
John Cole Jr. left the roadway and went into a ditch around 6:30 p.m. at the intersection of 114th Street and Highway 52 in Jackson County, according to the crash report.
Cole was thrown from the motorcycle when he hit the embankment, and died at Jackson County Health Center. The reason he left the roadway is unknown and the accident is under investigation, the Des Moines Register reported Monday.
According to his obituary, Cole, a Decatur native, was an Army veteran and a superintendent of construction for A-lert Co. working closely with ADM Archer-Daniels Midland. Among others, he is survived by his wife, Shawn Franzen of Sabula, son Tyler of Decatur, a stepson and four stepdaughters.
