STERLING – Monica E. Haverland, 64 of Sterling, died Saturday, September 7, 2019, at Genesis East Hospital in Davenport, IA.
She was born on April 25, 1955 in Sterling, the daughter of Mateo and Erminia (Gonzalez) Barron. She was a 1973 graduate of Sterling High School and attended Sauk Valley Community College and graduated in 1995 from Black Hawk College with a nursing degree. She had worked for several years as receptionist in the lab at CGH Medical Center. She married Gary Haverland on November 29, 1999. Monica had a deep spiritual faith. She loved music, animals and spending time with her family and grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband, Gary; her sons, Christopher Blum and Steven (Larissa) Blum; her mother, Erminia (Larry) Michler; her sisters, Maria (Randy) Machell and Angie (James) Lowe; her brothers, Mateo Barron Jr and Johnny Ray Barron; her grandchildren, Kaitlyn (Bow) Ekquist, Stephen Blum, Morgan and Nina; and her great grandchildren, Oliver and Sonny.
She was preceded in death by her father Mateo Barron Sr, and her sister Linda Ann Barron.
A gathering of friends and family will be held on Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the McDonald Funeral Home & Crematory, 1002 12th Avenue in Rock Falls, followed by the Memorial Service at 7 p.m. Burial will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Calvary Cemetery.
