Kenneth B. Hudson

STERLING – Kenneth B. Hudson, 90, died Saturday, August 10, 2019 at Rock River Hospice and Home.

He was born on November 30, 1928, in Golden Gate, IL, the son of Bennie and Emma (Bowman) Hudson. Kenneth was a veteran of the US Army having served from November 1948 to February 1955. While stationed in Munich, Germany he met his bride, Erna Hacker. She preceded him in death on June 16, 2015.

After retirement as a cement finisher with the local union, Kenneth continued to share his many trade skills with family and friends. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Sterling where he had served as a Deacon. In his youth, Kenneth enjoyed playing baseball, which led him to try out for the St Louis Cardinals. He also enjoyed traveling, fishing and spending time with family.

Survivors include three daughters, Shirley Ann (Mike) Pearson of Sterling, Rebecca (Al Jr) Dieterle of Sterling and Claudette (John) Eddy of Waverly, OH; his sister, Judy Barnes of Evansville, IN; his grandchildren, Dustin Frank, Derek Frank, Clinton Pearson, Petra (Dan) Paufve and Andrew (Jamie) Dieterle; his great grandchildren, Kye and Bryce Dieterle, Monroe Paufve and Brylee Brady.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother Forrest “Luke” Hudson and his sisters, Betty Saxe and Alice Buccola.

Visitation will be held on Friday, August 16, 2019, from noon to 1 p.m. at the First Christian Church in Sterling. The funeral will follow at 1 p.m. at the church with the Reverend Zach Mapes officiating. Burial will conclude with military honors at Oak Knoll Memorial Park.
