ROCK FALLS – Sign up is on for the Todd McThenia Memorial Doubles Tennis Tournament, which will be played Saturday at Centennial Park, 510 E. 11th St.
Admission is $10 per team; players must be 16 and older. Each team must supply a new can of Championship balls. Winners keep the new can; losers take the used can. Balls must be yellow and not seconds.
Men’s and women’s doubles begin at 9 a.m. and mixed doubles at 1 p.m.
All tennis courts at Centennial Park will be closed to the public; the rain date is Sunday.
McThenia, a 1983 Rock Falls High graduate who played on the high school and Sauk Valley Community College teams, died of cancer March 9, 1991.
Proceeds from the tournament, sponsored by Wheelock Furniture and the Coloma Township Park District, benefit the Whiteside County Cancer Fund. Donations in McThenia’s name can be sent to the Whiteside County Cancer Fund, 4234 N. Knoxville Ave., Peoria, IL 61614, or to the Park District, 510 E. 11th St., in Todd’s name.
