Cubs bring home
jerseys on road trip
The Cubs’ white home jerseys were packed into their equipment bags Wednesday night, loaded on the bus and flown to Cincinnati with the rest of the team.
When the players arrived at Great American Ball Park on Thursday afternoon, they discovered their pinstriped jerseys hanging in their lockers.
Veteran clubhouse manager Tom “Otis” Hellman confirmed it was a first for the Cubs, though he insisted he had no idea whose idea it was to bring some home flavor to Cincy to try to offset the Cubs’ brutal road record.
Mets sign veteran 2B Joe Panik

Brown wants to wear his old helmet
Brown believes that the new helmet he is supposed to wear “protrudes out and interferes with his vision as he tries to catch [the] football.”
The model of Brown’s specific helmet is among those that can be worn. Apparently, however, that model has sufficiently changed in the past decade to make Brown not interested in wearing it.

The 22-year-old can practice and play in preseason games before his suspension begins. He will be eligible to return to the Browns’ active roster on Sept. 30, the day after the team plays in Baltimore.
Liverpool loses GK 35 minutes into opener
Liverpool opened its bid to end a 30-year English title drought by beating Premier League newcomer Norwich 4-1 on Friday but lost goalkeeper Alisson to injury.
In his first game since Brazil’s victorious Copa América final a month ago, Alisson was forced off in the first half at Anfield with a calf injury.
The severity of the injury isn’t known yet but it will rule him out of the UEFA Super Cup match against Europa League winner Chelsea on Wednesday in Istanbul.
A history of disputes between a former Olympic equestrian athlete and two people who rented from him at a farm where he trains riders apparently turned violent this week, leaving a woman with life-threatening gunshot wounds.
Prosecutors in Morris County on Thursday charged Michael Barisone, 54, with two counts of attempted murder and weapons offenses.
According to a criminal complaint, a woman called 911 Wednesday afternoon and said Barisone had shot her twice.
Police arrived to find the woman bleeding on the ground with wounds to her chest, and another man lying on top of Barisone. Barisone had fired at the man as well but had missed, according to the complaint, and the man had subdued him until police arrived.
The woman’s injuries were described as serious and life-threatening.
Authorities have not released their names. According to the complaint, they lived at the farm, and there had been multiple recent calls to police from the residence because of what it described as “landlord-tenant related issues.”
