DIXON – Louis B. Levan, age 85, of Dixon died Wednesday, July 24, 2019, at Rock River Hospice Home in Sterling.
He was born April 5, 1934 in rural Dixon, the son of Avery and Minnie (Gerdes) Levan. Louis had been a truck driver at the Green River Ordinance Plant during WW II and had been a farmer from 1949 until his retirement in 1989. He had also sold Super Crost Seeds for many years.
He was a member of St Anne Catholic Church, Dixon Elks Club, Lee County Farm Bureau, Reagan Country Classics, and Rock River Restorers car clubs. He enjoyed watching trains and steam engines. He loved to restore old cars and John Deere and International Farmall tractors. Louis was a long time member of the Lee County Board and served as property committee chairman for 15 years. Louis married Patricia Cox on May 2, 1953 at the First Christian Church in Dixon.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers: Vernon, Lester, and George in infancy.
He is survived by his wife Patricia; children, Bradley (Tonya) Levan of Lebanon, TN, Susan (Dan) Sherstad of Rancho Cucamonga, CA, Christine (Kevin) Melton of Fairhope, AL, Jeanette (Steve) Keegan of Dixon; eight grandchildren, Sean Levan, Louis Levan, Danielle Sherstad, Sarah Sherstad, Jason Melton, Cynthia Baumann, Ehren Giblin, Elizabeth Zigler; four stepgrandchildren, Christopher Long, Steven Keegan, Matthew Keegan and Kristi Keegan; 17 great-grandchildren. He adored his grandchildren and they were the love of his life.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 27, 2019 beginning with a 1 p.m. prayer service at the Jones Funeral Home followed by a 1:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Anne Catholic Church in Dixon with the Rev. James Keenan officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Dixon. Visitation will be held on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. with a scripture service at 7:30 p.m. at the Jones Funeral Home. A memorial has been established.
