Emergency food money available

FREEPORT – Carroll County organizations can apply for Department of Homeland Security and Federal Emergency Management Agency moneys to help expand food and shelter programs in each county.

United Way of Northwest Illinois Inc. Executive Director Connie Kraft said Carroll is set to receive $2,800 in money. Counties were selected by a national board headed by FEMA.

Organizations receiving the funds must:

• Be private voluntary nonprofits with a volunteer board, or units of government

• Have an accounting system

• Practice nondiscrimination

• Have demonstrated the capability to deliver emergency food and shelter programs

Go to uwni.org/efsp or call UNWI at 815-235-5184 for an application and certification form. Grant request applications are due by noon Aug. 9 by email to director@uwni.org or mailed or delivered to the United Way of Northwest Illinois Inc., 524 W. Stephenson St., Freeport, IL 61032.
