Two wards, two seats, plenty of candidates for Prophetstown City Council

The following candidates are running for seats on the Prophetstown City Council in the April 2 electon. The candidates are listed in the order they appear on the ballot.

Ward 1

One seat open

Ryan Bohms

Occupation: EMT at CGH in Sterling.

Main goals if elected: To help in any way I can to help serve my community.

John Gibson

Occupation: Machine operator at Donaldson Co. Inc.

Age: 45

Political offices held: Chairman of the Prophetstown Zoning Board

Main goals if elected: I feel it’s important to have a balanced budget in government. I would like to see the city continue a proactive approach to infrastructure, because good sewer and water service, curb and gutters as well as streets and sidewalks are vital assets if the community is to grow.

I also would like to see the city develop an industrial park at the edge of the city. This can be an area that can be developed with city services that is away from the residential area.

Ryan McCowan

Occupation: Owner, Bollman Auto Center

Age: 31

Main goals if elected: I want to keep the community moving in a forward direction. I’ve run several businesses here as I have lived in Prophetstown my whole life. I want to be more active in the community and feel I can make an impact in the direction it takes in the future. I believe in being responsible with finances and also try to think of the impact on the future as decisions are made in the present.

Sena Warkins

Occupation: Sales/marketing director for Imprintable Memories Inc.

Main goals if elected: I want to make sure the City Council has a vision for the future of Prophetstown. I’ve been attending board meetings for more than a year and don’t see a vision or plan for the future. We need to find ways to bring new businesses and jobs to Prophetstown to show our young people the city can thrive in the future.

We need to encourage more volunteer activity from all ages to help make Prophetstown a place that will be growing in the future.

Ward 3

One seat open

Danny Baker

Occupation: Manager, Sullivan’s Foods in Morrison.

Age: 58

Political offices held: Incumbent Ward 3 alderman. on the council 12 years.

Main goals if elected: One of the biggest issues for us is building a new water treatment plant and finding ways to pay for it.

Brooks Soleta

Occupation: Co-owner, Soleta Classic Restoration

Age: 39

Main goals if elected: I hope to enhance growth for the businesses in Prophetstown and increase the prosperity for home owners in town. I want to focus on the wellness of the community and make sure there is quality care for Prophetstown residents for many years.

I want to establish long-term goals that will ensure success and growth for the next generation of Prophetstown residents. I want to help make this a great place to work and raise a family.
