DIXON – When it comes to the annual Top Dog fundraiser for the Granny Rose Animal Shelter, the phrase “something for everyone” is more than a cliche: This is one of the most varied – and popular – events around.
In addition to the multilevel bags tournament, which draws players from all over the region, there will be a poker tournament, auctions, live music games and more
Doors open at 1 p.m. March 2 at the VFW, 1560 state Route 2, where there will be live and silent auctions of items such as signed sports memorabilia, Chicago Cubs, Notre Dame, and Chicago Bears tickets, Rolling Stones and Jimmy Buffett tickets, skydiving and zip line certificates, and more.
Spin-the-Wheel, a game for all ages, and liquor and wine bottle ring toss, for those 21 and older, will be played and prizes will be awarded.
Local favorites Burn ‘n Bush play at 5 p.m.
A Texas hold ‘em poker tournament will be played March 2 at Quality Inn, 136 Plaza Drive. Sign-up begins at 11 a.m. and play begins at noon.
The $50 buy-in will get you $8,000 in chips, and an optional $25 add-on will get you $5,000 more in chips. Payout is 85 percent, with 15 percent going to Granny Rose. Each player will get a free koozie.
A 50-50 drawing also is underway. First- through third-place prizes are $2,000, $1,000, and $500. The drawing will be held at 7 p.m. March 2; in the meantime, tickets are available at Shamrock Pub, 1401 Chicago Ave.; Oliver’s Corner Market, 748 N. Brinton Ave., and at Granny Rose.
