The Veniers are rockin' at Rosbrook

DIXON – Mike Venier & The Downtown Rhythm Kings, with special guest Gina Venier, will rock Rosbrook Studio, 107 S. Peoria Ave.

Doors open and 7 and the show begins at 8 p.m. Saturday

Admission is $5; pizza and beverages by Mama Cimino’s will be sold.

DIXON – Fourth Fridays Open Mic begins at 7 p.m. at Post House Community Center, 100 W. Second St.

Each musician or band performs four songs, and a jam session follows. Instruments are acoustic, a sound system is provided, and poets and short-story writers are welcome.

Orchard Fire plays Friday and New Trick Saturday, both from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m., at the Whiskey Barrel Saloon, 305 W. Second St. in Rock Falls.

Wicked Earl plays also performs Saturday, down the block a bit at The Cooler, 311 W. Second St.

Brushville will be playing high-energy country with a touch of classic rock from 9 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. Saturday at Henry's Double K, 834 S. Jackson St. in Mount Carroll.

Prefer a hot cup o' joe with your cool licks?

Wade Buzzard plays from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Books on First, 202 W. First St. in Dixon.

Hit the rink!

MOUNT CARROLL The Mount Carroll Lions Club is offering a free Family Skate Night from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the ice rink in Point Rock Park.

Don’t have your own ice skates? No problem! A variety of sizes will be available to borrow.

There also will be free hot dogs, brats and hot chocolate, along with music and a warming fire.

If the weather turns bad, the event will move to Feb. 9.

'Beer for Breakfast'

BYRON – Byron Civic Theatre presents the comedy "Beer for Breakfast," a two-act play by Sean Grennan about a group of middle-aged buddies reuniting for a guys weekend, when Jessie, the wife of absent friend Adrian, shows up in his place.

Parental warning: There's some adult content.

The show begins at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and at 2 p.m. Sunday with repeat performances next weekend. Tickets cost $14 for adults, $12 for seniors and $10 for students, at 815-312-3000, at www.byroncivictheatre.com or at the door at 850 N. Colfax St.

The show "Million Dollar Quartet," which was to be performed this weekend, was cancelled.
