Corbin signs deal with Nationals

The Washington Nationals are adding another high-caliber pitcher to their rotation, agreeing to terms on a 6-year deal with free agent Patrick Corbin on Tuesday.

The deal, pending a physical, reportedly is for $140 million – significantly higher than the deal Yu Darvish signed with the Cubs last year.

The 29-year-old Corbin, an All-Star selection in 2018, is coming off his best season, going 11-7 with a 3.15 ERA while logging 200 innings for the second time in his career. Relying largely on his filthy slider, the left-hander set a career high in strikeouts (246) after making his first Opening Day start for the Diamondbacks.

Corbin joins a Nationals rotation that already boasts three-time Cy Young Award winner Max Scherzer and three-time All-Star Stephen Strasburg.

Broncos’ Sanders
suffers ankle injury

Denver Broncos wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders was helped off the practice field Wednesday after crumpling to the ground on a pass play and grabbing his left ankle.

The team feared it was a torn Achilles tendon. Sanders will undergo further tests.

Sanders, who became the Broncos’ No. 1 receiver with the trade of Demaryius Thomas to the Houston Texans last month, missed four games last season with a right ankle injury.

Sanders leads the Broncos (6-6) with 71 catches for 868 yards and four touchdowns. He’s also run for a touchdown and thrown for a touchdown.
