Demmer re-elected to 90th District House seat

DIXON – State Rep. Tom Demmer has won a fourth term in office.

The Dixon Republican was re-elected to the 90th District House seat Tuesday, defeating Democratic challenger Amy Davis 14,337 to 9,696 votes, or 60 percent, according to unofficial election results with 66 percent of precincts reporting.

Davis, who made her first run at public office, is a retired educator at Dixon Correctional Center.

Demmer first won the seat in 2012, defeating three candidates in the primary and beating Democrat Thomas Boken Jr. in the general election. He ran unopposed in both the primaries and general elections in 2014 and 2016.

In July, Demmer was named deputy House minority leader, giving him the second-highest ranking in the House Republican Caucus. He was chief negotiator for the House Republicans in the budget negotiations, and served on 14 House committees during the spring legislative session.

He is co-founder of the Illinois Future Caucus, a group of young lawmakers focused on innovative, bipartisan politics.

He also is director of innovation and strategy at KSB Hospital in Dixon, and is a former Lee County Board member.

Demmer, 32, serves on the Board of Directors for the Ronald Reagan Boyhood Home Preservation Foundation, is a member of St. Anne Parish, the Dixon Rotary Club, and the Knights of Columbus, and is a volunteer teacher with Junior Achievement.

The 90th District includes parts of DeKalb, LaSalle, Lee and Ogle counties.
