State Sen. Neil Anderson was re-elected to a second term in the 36th District.
Anderson, R-Andalusia, won 50.87 percent of the vote Tuesday against East Moline Democrat Gregg Johnson with 38,643 versus 37,320 votes, according to unofficial election results.
The 36-year-old incumbent has been a firefighter and paramedic at the Moline Fire Department since 2006 and was elected to office in 2014 after unseating Mike Jacobs.
Johnson is a retired union leader, former president of AFSCME Local 46, and worked 32 years with the Illinois Department of Corrections.
Anderson has been Republican spokesman for the Senate Agriculture Committee and Licensed Activities and Pensions Committee and is a member on the Senate Transportation, Commerce, Energy, and Gaming committees.
He and his wife, Brandi, have two children, Steel and Sophia.
The 36th District includes portions of Whiteside, Carroll, Rock Island and Henry counties.
