OREGON – A Mount Morris 19-year-old with a history of domestic abuse is in Ogle County Jail on $500,000 bond, accused of injuring a 5-month-old baby so severely that the baby wound up in at Rockford hospital with a fractured skull and multiple broken bones.
Shane D. Wilson, 19, was arrested Thursday; he faces 6 to 30 years in prison if convicted of aggravated battery of a child. He has a preliminary hearing Tuesday.
Bones in the child’s ribs, arms, legs, and wrists were fractured, and the baby also had cranial bleeding and a collapsed lung, the Ogle County sheriff said in a news release.
Police responded to the hospital early Tuesday morning; Dixon police arrested Wilson around midnight Wednesday.
The baby’s condition was not available Sunday.
The abuse took place in rural Mount Morris, investigators said.
In September 2017, Wilson was convicted of misdemeanor domestic battery and sentenced to a year and a half of probation. A felony charge of battering a pregnant person was dismissed.
In March, he was charged with five counts of felony domestic abuse, felony possession of marijuana and misdemeanor resisting; he pleaded down to one count of aggravated domestic battery and in June was sentenced to 2 years’ probation.
When he was arrested Thursday, there also were two Ogle County warrants out on Wilson, one for failure to pay or appear in the 2017 case, and the other, on a petition, filed Aug. 31, to revoke his probation in this year’s case, also for failure to pay or appear.
