Art show is a walk in the park

ROCK FALLS – The Art in the Park Sculpture Tour will debut from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at RB&W District Park on the riverfront.

Ten Chicago artists will display their works and discuss their creations. Class Act II will provide music.

People can buy the art, and take it home after it has been displayed in the park for a year. New pieces will be brought in next September.

A flight of fancy footwork

MOUNT MORRIS – Rock River Flyers Club’s fifth annual 1940s-era Hangar Dance will be held from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday at Ogle County Airport, 3019 W. state Route 64.

A dance band will play music, and there will be contests and raffles. Period dress is encouraged, but not necessary.

Some seating is available, but guests also can bring lawn chairs. Concessions will be available at 6 p.m. and the music starts at 6:30.

The cost is $6 for singles, or $10 a couple.

Grande dame of art shows

GRAND DETOUR – The 70th annual Grand Detour Arts Festival returns from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at the John Deere Historic Site, 8334 S. Clinton St.

The juried show and sale features works of original concept, design and execution. Categories include painting, graphics, sculpture, jewelry, photography, drawing and artisan crafts (clay, fiber, glass, metal, paper and wood).

There also will be a student art show, live music and concessions.

Classic rides cruise into Sublette

SUBLETTE – The annual Sublette Country Car Show runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, along U.S. Route 52, across from Country Village Meats.

Cars, trucks, motorcycles and tractors will be on display. Kaiser-Frazer, Willys-Overland, Hudson and Nash autos will be featured, and there will be a special area for Chevrolets across from Vaessen Brothers Chevrolet. There will be no judging.

There also will be an auto parts swap meet, concessions, and music.

A stroll through the farms one day

The free self-guided Ogle County Farm Stroll runs from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday. Farms will be open to visitors who can check out displays of farming techniques and operations.

Each farm will feature different displays, including a corn maze, rope making, corn shelling, and more, and some will sell locally sourced food and offer activities.
