Comets breeze past Panthers in two sets

Golden Warriors pick up road win; Dixon boys soccer goes on eight-goal scoring spree

Newman cruised to a 25-19, 25-7 win at Erie-Prophetstown on Thursday.

Savannah Skinner had five aces, two assists and 10 digs for the Comets. Aidan Brown had 12 kills, seven digs and a block. Madison Craft had 13 assists. Hannah McCarty chipped in four kills.

Sophia Sullivan had four kills for the Panthers. Jenna Saad had six assists and five digs. Jessica Woodworth added five digs.

Sterling def. Stillman Valley 25-7, 25-17: The Golden Warriors cruised to a non-conference road win.

Brooklyn Borum had 12 kills. Breelyn Borum had eight kills, 15 assists and five digs. Grace Gould had six digs. Gretchen Gould had five kills and two blocks. Lexi Rodriguez had 13 digs. Josi Borum had 16 assists.

Bureau Valley def. Kewanee 25-21, 25-17: Saige Barnett had seven kills, eight digs, two blocks and five aces in the Storm’s TRAC East road win.

Molly Bohm added seven assists and four digs. Marissa Endress had six digs. Emily Fordham had seven assists.

Riverdale def. Morrison 26-24, 25-17: The Fillies dropped a close first set at home on the way to a two-set loss.

Kaylee Shetler had six kills to lead Morrison. Emily Szabo had 11 digs and two aces.

Amboy def. AFC 25-21, 25-13: The Clippers pulled out an NUIC East home win over the Raiders.

Gabby Jones had 16 assists and six digs for Amboy. Savannah Ikens had six kills with Shannon Lytle and Dani Hochstatter each notching five. Mallory Powers had three aces. Ashley Althaus and Rachel Lachat each had two aces.

Forreston def. Milledgeville 25-10, 25-12: The Missiles fell to the Cardinals on the road in NUIC East play.

Alyvia Woodard led the Missiles with six digs. Samantha Hartman had four assists.

Katie Erdmann led Forreston with 21 kills. Alexus Houston added five kills and 13 digs. Grace Carr had 27 assists.

Lena-Winslow def. Eastland 29-27, 15-25, 25-22: The Panthers handed the Cougars their first NUIC West loss of the year in Lanark.

Karlie Krogman had 11 kills and two blocks for the Cougars. Gabby Snyder had 32 digs. Erin Henze had 17 assists. Snyder and Sage Walrath each had three aces.

Indian Creek def. Faith Christian 27-25, 22-25, 26-24: The Falcons lost for the first time this year.

Michal Schuler led the way with 26 kills, six aces and four blocks. Meghan Van Buren added 18 assists, four blocks and three aces.

Girls golf

Byron 227, Oregon 240: The Hawks fell by 13 strokes at Silver Ridge.

Elizabeth Villareal led the Hawks with a 55.

Byron’s Page Bukoski was the medalist with a 51.

Sterling 210, Moline 260: Abby Sheets and Julia Hoffman both shot a 49 in the Golden Warriors win on a wet course in Moline.

Averi Heintzelman shot a 51.

Boys golf

Byron 182, Oregon 189: Jackson Buck shot a 41 at Silver Ridge, but the Tigers still beat the Hawks by seven strokes.

Adam Merrill carded a 46 for Oregon.

Boys soccer

Dixon 8, North Boone 1: Seven different Dukes found the back of the net in a Big Northern road win.

Kade Fulton scored twice. Alex Georgiev, Payton Hale, Bradyn Langloss, Ethan Fox, Adrian Rodriguez and James Duet all scored.

Winnebago 3, Oregon 1: The Hawks got a goal from Josh Sitze, assisted by Isaac Nelson, but fell to the Indians at Oregon Park West.
