Consider advice of St. Paul as an act of kindess

Regarding Sarah Schlegel’s recent piece [“Continued rancor against homosexuality is misguided,” July 27]:

The basic essence of a human being is one’s humanity, not simply inclination.

The advocacy of the sexual revolution, including homosexuality in the 20th century, helped us to spread venereal diseases, ones which cost many, many lives.

St. Paul did not condemn marriage, but associated it with the union of Christ with his church. Runaway slaves could be punished with crucifixion. His advice to slaves was an act of kindness.

In his Epistle to Philemon, he urged Philemon to receive back a runaway slave, not as a slave, but as a brother.
