Obama should quit his bashing of the president

America is now more divided as a people than possibly at any other time in history.

The division is because of politics, largely. Long gone are the days when the people of the United States would pull themselves up and rejoin forces with each other after an election, putting aside differences and working for the country’s common good.

Objectively, it seems to have started when Obama first went into office, and then when Trump took over, the divisions multiplied and grew even worse.

Why? There are, unfortunately, probably enough reasons to fill an entire book. Can we recover, as a people, from the downward spiral of “us against them”? It is possible, yes, but is it likely?

Politics aside, I propose that, regardless of one’s views on former President Obama – and I stress the word “former” – if he would literally mind his own business, find a private project or two of his own to work on, and step into the shadows and let Trump do his job, a reuniting of our nation might be sped up and made more concrete.

Obama seems to take joy in seizing every opportunity, at home and abroad, to bash and second-guess nearly everything Trump does or tries to do. This only undermines presidential authority and influence at home and abroad.

Obama should spend his energy finding hobbies or special interests to spend his energies on instead of meddling in someone else’s job. Gerald Ford retired to a golf career. Jimmy Carter, to this day, remains busy with a number of projects that benefit less fortunate people around the world. Both Bush Senior and Junior retired to a more active family life. The list goes on. Obama bashes Trump.

No one elected Obama as assistant president. He should stop using his influence to further the divisions of the American people.
