DIXON – A Rockford woman is raising money to repay the recent good deed of a homeless Dixon man.
Michael Wulf, an unemployed welder and Dixon native, found a woman’s wallet and cellphone near Drifters Saloon with about $600 in it last weekend and handed it over to the bar to see if people there might be able to return it to its owner, which they did.
Jeni Robin Benham Keller, of Rockford, heard about the story and wanted to do something good for Wulf. She starting a GoFundMe fundraising page for him with a $1,000 goal.
She created the page Thursday, and by Friday evening 94 people raised about $2,300. She also contacted the Dixon Police Department offering to have them present the money to Wulf to assure donors that she’s not going to pocket it herself.
“This story touched my heart, and I just would like to show that there are still good people in this world, and Michael Wulf is definitely one of those people,” she said.
