DIXON – Project GenNex, which is renewing its effort to build a teen center and skate park in Dixon, is in need of volunteers – “people with a heart for teens” – to help get the job done.
Anyone interested is invited to attend a rebirth and rebranding meeting at 6 p.m. today at Loveland Community House and Museum, 513 W. Second St.
The group has been trying for about 5 years to raise money and attract volunteers to help convert the long-closed Veterans Memorial Pool in Vaile Park into a hangout for youth, especially those with problems at school and home looking for a place to belong.
Plans hit a snag a year ago when the Park District, on the advice of its insurance company, closed the center – which had been open for about a month – because a railing was unsafe and the pool basin needed to be fenced off.
“Project GenNex needs you, people with a heart for teens, people to devote time and commit to this project to develop a teen center in Dixon,” the group wrote on its Facebook page.
“Yes, we need resources and financing as well, but we need people, the very thing we didn’t have enough of last time.”
