DIXON – Marjorie C. (Marge) Magden, 90, of Dixon, formerly of Elgin, passed away on July 5, 2018, at Serenity Hospice & Home in Oregon, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born Oct. 17, 1927, in Batavia, the daughter of Carl and Helen (Bockhus) Johnson. Marjorie graduated in 1945 from Elgin High School. She married the love of her life, Ralph Magden, on October 6, 1949. She worked at Cooper’s Drugstore, Ackerman’s and at Illinois Bell, and then became a full-time mother.

Marjorie later volunteered at Jefferson Grade School as a kindergarten aide and worked as an election volunteer for the county for many years. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and was an avid golfer, card player and a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan. Go Cubs. She will be deeply missed, including by her faithful companion, Truffy.

She is survived by her son, David Magden of Columbus, Ohio; daughter, Diane Schmitto (Randy Anders) of Pennington Gap, Virginia; brother, Alan (Linda) Johnson of South Elgin; and sister, Elaine Jacqmein of Dunnellon, Florida. Last but not least, she is survived by her favorite “double cousin” Betty Hansford from St. Charles. Marjorie has five nephews and two nieces.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Magden; her parents, Carl and Helen Johnson; and her sister, Sharyn D. Nelson.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m., and the funeral at 11 a.m. Saturday at Laird Funeral Home in Elgin. Burial will follow at Bluff City Cemetery in Elgin.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Serenity Hospice & Home, 1658 state Route 2, Oregon, IL 60161.
