LaMoille man, 73, dies in grain bin engulfment

LAMOILLE – A 73-year-old LaMoille man was engulfed in grain and suffocated Tuesday in rural Bureau County.

Roger Cogdal was reported missing that afternoon, and the LaMoille Fire Department was called to 30857 2600 North Ave., east of town, around 8:30 p.m. to search the bin.

Firefighters cut open the bin and shoveled the grain out until Cogdal's body could be removed, Chief Brent Becker said. They cleared the scene around midnight.

The Bureau County Sheriff's Office and coroner are investigating.

Merritt Funeral in Mendota is handling arrangements; his obituary will be posted at merrittfh.com once those arrangements are finalized.
