STERLING – Barbara Rangel, 80, of Sterling, entered into Heaven on Sunday, July 8, 2018, at her home.

Barbara was born Aug. 8, 1937, in Paducah, Kentucky, the daughter of Marvin and Myrtle (Powers) Gibson. She married Margarito Rangel on July 27, 1978, in Sterling. 

Survivors include her husband, Margarito; two daughters, Robin Pettorini of Knoxville, Tennessee, and Pamela (Okaka) Dokotum of Lira, Uganda; five sons, Pat (Brenda) Pettorini of Sterling, Brian Pettorini, and Barry Pettorini, Ronald (LaRin) Rangel and Michael (Erin DeSutter) Rangel, all of Sterling; stepchildren, Minerva (Craig) Boyungs of Colorado Springs, Colorado, John Rangel and Fred (Missy) Rangel, both of Sterling, Tony (Kathy) Rangel of Davenport, Iowa, Margarito (Anna) Rangel Jr. of Addison and Jorge (Patti) Rangel of Rockford; two sisters, Linda McGee of Newton, North Carolina, and Lois Muldoon of Sterling; one brother, Ernie (Chona) Gibson of the Philippines; 13 grandchildren, Josh Pettorini, Megan Pettorini, Adam Voshell, Marty Voshell, Janelle Williamson, Amina Dokotun, Alex Rangel, Jeremy Hardeson, Nicholas Hardeson, Nicholas Hardeson, Brian Hardeson, Gregory Hardeson and Marquis Love; 13 stepgrandchildren, Freddy Rangel, Nicole Rangel-Osborn, Nathan and Matthew Straub, Tricia Rangel, Mike Rangel, Sidney Kohl, Chelsea Rangel, Jordan Van Osdel, Craig Boyungs, Jessie Boyungs, Dylan Backman, and Monica Swintek; and several great-grandchildren. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Michael and Dennis Pettorini; one sister, Claire Pettinger; and one brother, Charles Gibson. 

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Schilling Funeral Home and Cremation in Sterling. The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with Pastor Larry Harts, from City of God, officiating. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery.

A memorial has been established to Happy Tails and Rock River Hospice & Home.
