In response to Nancy Lenhart’s letter [“Disappointed with cartoons about president,” The Reader’s Voice, May 16]:
Are you serious? President Donald Trump is the instigator in charge who ridicules, attacks, belittles and bullies people every day!
Trump cartoons appear in publications all over the country and the world. Why not in the Sauk Valley? It’s called freedom of the press. Our democracy depends on it. Sauk Valley Media is doing its job well. Besides, to many in our country, this president is a joke.
Furthermore, the majority would disagree with your statement that this man was rightly elected. You must mean, with the help of the Russians and many other efforts, legal and illegal, used to make it harder for Americans – particularly minorities, the elderly, students, and those with disabilities – to exercise their fundamental right to cast a ballot.
These measures include cuts to early voting, spreading disinformation about voting procedures, voter ID laws, and purging voter rolls.
Illustrating this president in a humorous manner is actually good for our health. It is pain relief for those of us who need a good laugh to stop us from crying at how this man conducts himself.
As smart people predicted, his unconventional behavior and lack of character are unbefitting of a president. He sets the tone for the country, and it’s not a good tone. But, we are where we are, and turning to laughter is one way to get through it all.
I am thankful that my life is full of laughter. It heals all wounds and makes all things better. I wonder what this writer, Ms. Lenhart, laughs about? She would do well to give it a try. I think she’d find that “laughter is good for the soul.”
