April showers bring May flowers, so the saying goes.
This April has seen something of a shower of good economic news for Sterling that, carrying forth the analogy, could well stimulate a flowering of the local economy.
We speak of two business expansions occurring or announced in April.
1) A few weeks ago, Halo Branded Solutions moved into its new headquarters at 1500 Halo Way in Sterling. The 157,500-square-foot facility is part of the company’s growth plan to add 250 jobs over 5 years.
2) About a week later, VeriFacts leadership announced a plan of controlled growth that should lead to the addition of 100 new jobs at its downtown Sterling facility in the next 12 to 24 months.
Business is booming at both companies.
Halo Branded Solutions, which has called the Sauk Valley home for 66 years, makes promotional and employee recognition products. It has 369 employees.
Its new facility houses Halo’s 300-person headquarters team, and there will be workstations for 200 additional employees.
VeriFacts, which was founded 31 years ago by owners Jim and Sheila Gabler, locates people for clients in the financial and accounts receivable industry.
It started with three employees in 1987 and has grown to a staff of 150.
The companies are different, but not so their philosophies of fulfilling a need in the marketplace and engaging in controlled growth to continue meeting that need.
Sterling, once known for manufacturing hardware and steel before those industries subsided, is fortunate to be experiencing economic expansion in other sectors.
When local employers experience growth, the positive effects ripple through the local economy for the benefit of all.
We congratulate Halo Branded Solutions and VeriFacts on their business expansions, we wish them the best of luck in the future, and we hope their growth leads to a further flowering of the local economy.
