Teen struck and killed by semi outside Oregon

OREGON – An Oregon High School student was struck and killed by a semi Saturday morning, about 2 miles west of Oregon.

Weslee Rice, 17, was walking in the 2600 block of West Pines Road about 1:30 a.m. when he was hit by a semi driven by Dakota Snyder, 21, of Mount Morris, according to the Ogle County Sheriff's Department.

Rice was transported to Rockford Memorial Hospital, where he later died. An autopsy is planned for Monday.

Snyder was taken to KSB Hospital, though authorities did not say whether he was injured. His condition was unavailable Sunday.

Oregon High School held a 2-hour counseling session Sunday night for students and their parents. The Facebook post announcing the session said “We are greatly saddened by the loss of one of our students.”
