’Hawks sign Notre Dame defenseman

He will report immediately to Rockford for the IceHogs’ AHL playoff run.

Gilbert, 21, was the Blackhawks’ third-round pick (No. 91 overall) in the 2015 NHL Draft. He played the last 3 years at Notre Dame, where he emerged as one of the top defensemen for one of the best programs in the country. The Fighting Irish reached the Frozen Four in each of the last two seasons, falling to Minnesota-

Ken Hitchcock is retiring
from coaching after 22 years, leaving the Dallas Stars’ bench after just one season to become a consultant with the team.

Hitchcock, 66, is third in NHL history with 823 coaching victories, and fourth with 1,536 games behind the bench. He coached the Stars, Philadelphia Flyers, Columbus Blue Jackets, St. Louis Blues, and then the Stars for a second time during a career that started during the 1995-96 season.

He won the Stanley Cup in 1999 with Dallas. His 86 playoff victories rank ninth overall.

Game show makes up for White Sox snub

“Wheel of Fortune” finally made things right with the Chicago White Sox and their fans after their snub against the team earlier this year.

Back in February, the game show featured a puzzle of professional Chicago sports teams, but did not include the White Sox.

On Thursday night, however, the Sox got a puzzle all to themselves. The category was “People”, and the solution was “Chicago White Sox fans.”
