Softball Roundup: Alexander, Warriors power past Pirates

Miller hits for cycle in Missiles win; Dambman drives in five as Cougars top RRSM

Cara Alexander went 2-for-3 with three RBIs to power the Golden Warriors to a 7-1 road win over Ottawa.

Gretchen Gould, Hannah Kessler and Jordan Thormeyer all had two hits for Sterling. 

Jayme Eilers earned the win in the circle, going all seven innings and allowing one earned run, three hits and three walks while striking out nine.

Amboy 5, Orangeville 1: Kallie Appleman went 2-for-4 with a solo home run, and Summer Bulfer went 2-for-3 with a triple and two RBIs to power the Clippers past the Broncos at home.

Allison O’Rourke also went 2-for-3 for Amboy. Bailee Highbarger struck out six and allowed just one earned run and four hits in a complete-game win.

Pecatonica 4, AFC 3: The Raiders scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth to take a 3-2 lead in Ashton, but couldn’t hold off the Indians in an NUIC East contest.

Kendall Sanford struck out 15 in seven innings, and allowed four runs (three earned), five hits and seven walks for AFC. She also picked up an RBI.

Karlee Ashbury had a double, a triple and an RBI for the Raiders, while Maley Fike added a double.

Eastland 11, River Ridge-Scales Mound 3: The Cougars scored four runs in the first and picked up the win in Hanover.

Erica Dambman had a home run and five RBIs. Emma Norton went 3-for-4 at the plate and drove in a run.

Norton pitched, striking out eight and allowing three runs on nine hits.

West Carroll 8, Galena 1: Riley Sullivan limited the visiting Pirates to an unearned run in the NUIC win.

Sullivan struck out seven and limited Galena to five hits.

At the plate, Sullivan went 3-for-4. McKenna Sullivan and Emma Aljets were both 2-for-4 and Dani Tafoya was 2-for-3. Aljets and Tafoya each drove in two runs.

Dakota 6, Polo 3: The Marcos took a 3-2 lead with three runs in the top of the second, but Dakota came back with three in the bottom of the second to claim the NUIC East win.

Emily Boelens drove in three runs and had three hits. Sydney Gunder struck out 10 in the circle for Polo.

Milledgeville 18, Aquin 7, 5 inn.: Ciara Miller hit for the cycle and drove in four runs in a road NUIC win for the Missiles.

Alli Schmidt and Alexis Janssen also hit triples for Milledgeville. Schmidt and Madalyn Hicks drove in three runs.

Hicks pitched, allowing three earned runs in 4 2/3 innings and striking out five.

Riverdale 4, Fulton 3: The Steamers could not pull out the close game at Drives Park.

Emily Banker had three hits and Rylee Leitzen added two. Banker had two RBIs.

Liz Fish pitched 3 1/3 innings and struck out four while allowing three runs on six hits.
