AMBOY – The Amboy Police Department has launched a new website for residents to look up sex offenders in the area.
The department is now part of the OffenderWatch network with about 5,000 law enforcement agencies that allows citizens to see what sex offenders live nearby and sign up for alerts if an offender registers within a radius of a certain address.
“Citizens have a right to know who may be living near them and could potentially pose a threat to their families," Police Chief Jeff Blake said in a news release Thursday.
It also allows the department to better monitor sex offenders and make sure they are following residence requirements, such as not living near certain areas like schools and parks.
