Peoria senator endorses Meyer for Lee County treasurer

DIXON – State Sen. Chuck Weaver, R-Peoria, has endorsed Dixon Finance Director Paula Meyer in her race for the Lee County Treasurer’s seat.

“I’m impressed with Paula Meyer’s exemplary record of financial management and her admirable character – that is the essential combination needed for this position,” Weaver said in a news release Saturday.

The 37th District senator went on to say that “as the City of Dixon Chief Financial Officer over the past 5 years, Paula has implemented numerous fiscal policies and procedures, which have stabilized the city’s finances and has set the stage in restoring the public’s trust in city government.”

Meyer, 53, has been an accountant for 27 years and started her 22-year run working in government finance as Sauk’s controller in 1995.

She’s running against Melissa Lawrence, 35, Lee County’s chief deputy treasurer, who has worked in the treasurer’s office for about 13 years and became chief deputy a year ago. Current Treasurer John Fritts said in September he wouldn’t seek a seventh term, and endorsed Lawrence.
