Locals earn IBCA
all-state honors

Six local players were honored on the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association all-state team for Class 1A & 2A.

AFC junior Jaynee
Prestegaard and Ohio senior Lexi Loftus were both
second-team selections, while AFC senior Madeline Prestegaard was a third-team pick, and Eastland sophomore Lydia Coatney was a fourth-teamer.

Erie senior Whitney Bramm and Bureau Valley senior Christen Hurley were honorable mention selections.


Ottens, Young top NUIC East team

Milledgeville’s Kyle Ottens and Polo’s Justin Young were unanimous selections to the NUIC East all-conference team, it was announced on Friday.

Locals joining Ottens and Young on the first team were Amboy’s Justin Hart and Milledgeville’s Cade Schave.

Area second-team picks were Polo’s Trevin Woodin and Braiden Soltow, and AFC’s Caleb Drew.


Newman’s Wilson, AFC’s Shrimplin sign with Sauk Valley

Newman’s Hannah Wilson and AFC’s Emily Shrimplin will continue their volleyball careers with the Skyhawks. 

Wilson was a first-team TRAC East selection during the 2017 season. She had 98 kills and 78.5 blocks for the Comets.

Shrimplin, a 4-year starting setter for the Raiders, was a first-team NUIC East selection last season. She recorded 306 assists, 72 kills, 59 blocks, 58 digs and 45 aces for AFC.


Dixon’s Drengenberg to attend South Dakota

Dixon senior Leah Drengenberg announced via Twitter on Friday that she will continue her triathlon career at South Dakota.

Drengenberg has raced at state meets in cross country, swimming, and track & field for the Duchesses. She also competes in triathlons for MMTT-Mach II in the Chicago suburbs, and Sammy’s Fox Valley Region Club.

Women’s triathlon was added as a sport for 2018-19 at South Dakota on Nov. 14, 2017, and the Coyotes will compete at the Division I level. The campus is located in Vermillion, S.D.


Dixon’s Hantke to roll at Highland C.C.

Dixon senior Annie Hantke will continue her bowling career at Highland Community College next fall.

Hantke led the Duchesses with a team-high 1,208 pins at the Kaneland Sectional, good for 23rd place overall. She also finished 16th a week earlier with 1,147 pins at the DeKalb Sectional.

Highland competes at the NJCAA Division II level, and its home lanes are 4 Seasons Bowling Center in Freeport.
