Local trio competes in State Three-Point Showdown
Erie’s Riley Redell,
Milledgeville’s Mady Frederick and Oregon’s Addie Kitzmiller competed Thursday in the IHSA State Three-Point Showdown.
Kitzmiller made 7 of 15 shots in the Class 2A competition, while Frederick made four shots and Redell sank three shots in the 1A competition. None of the three locals advanced to the finals.
Carrollton’s Hannah Krumwiede, Lexington’s Jayden Standish, Decatur St. Teresa’s Jeanna-Marie Wilson and Winchester West Central’s Logyn Little advance to today’s finals in Class 1A.
Vienna’s Emma Rush, Chicago Harlan’s Tenile Robertson, Illini West’s Brooklyn Krueger and Casey-Westfield’s Jae Lynn Riggleman advanced to the 2A finals.
Eight locals earn
Dixon’s Britney Pitzer and Rock Falls’ Molly Buck highlighted the Big Northern all-conference list as first-team selections.
Oregon’s Bailey Montavon, Dixon’s Zoe Carr and Kira Goral, and Rock Falls’ Elise Moeller were named to the second team.
Dixon’s Caylyn Kimmel and Rock Falls’ Abi Peyton were selected as honorable mentions.
Thunder LB Murray commits to Central
West Carroll senior linebacker Devon Murray announced Thursday on his Twitter account that he will continue his football career at Central College.
Murray led the Thunder in tackles last season, and was an Illinois High School Football Coaches Association 2A All-State selection and a unanimous pick to the NUIC Northwest first team.

Division III level in the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic
RF’s O’Brien signs with Sauk Valley
Rock Falls senior Carter O’Brien signed on Thursday to continue his golf career at Sauk Valley Community College.
O’Brien finished in 14th at the Big Northern Conference
Meet last season, and
narrowly missed advancing to sectionals out of the 2A Mendota Regional, falling short in a three-way playoff for the final qualifying spot.
