Three children treated after vehicle hits River Bend bus

FULTON – Three children were taken to the hospital as a precaution this morning after a River Bend School District bus was struck on U.S. Route 30 at Elston Road, Whiteside County Sheriff’s and school officials said.

The three are in middle and high school, Superintendent Darryl Hogue said.

According to the sheriff’s department:

The bus was westbound on Route 30 turning north onto Elston around 7:40 a.m. when it was struck by a van driven by Timothy K. Perry, 22, of Albany, Georgia.

Perry did not notice the traffic slowing down and swerved to avoid striking a car, going into a ditch before hitting the bus. He was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

He and the students were taken to Mercy Medical Center in Clinton, Iowa, with non-life-threatening injuries, the release said.
