CHADWICK – Alvin “Alvie” Swearingen, 80, of Chadwick, died Monday, Feb. 5, 2018, at Liberty Village Manor Court in Freeport. He was a hog buyer for 43 years in the Chadwick area.
He was born June 1, 1937, in Kewanee, to Russell D. and Frances (Jacobs) Swearingen. He married Betty Spiegel on Feb. 11, 1956, in Kewanee. She preceded him in death on Jan. 12, 1988. He married Jane Feldman-Miller on Nov. 25, 1989, in Morrison. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Morrison.
Survivors include his wife, Jane; three daughters, Cheryl (David) Schlagheck of Spring Valley, Karan (Joel) Schneider of Deerfield, and Debby (Steve) Clydesdale of Eldridge, Iowa; five sons, Alvin (Jean) Swearingen Jr. of Hickory Hills, Alan (Jill) Swearingen of Columbia, Missouri, Charles (Kellie) Swearingen of Pewaukee, Wisconsin, and Kevin (Debbie) Miller and Mike Miller, both of Chadwick; 19 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one sister, Bonnie (John) Engel of Bettendorf, Iowa; three brothers, Wayne (Mary) Swearingen of Kewanee, Donnie (Joyce) Swearingen of Andover, and Kenny (Joanne) Swearingen of Honolulu.
He also was preceded in death by his parents; two daughters, Katherine Swearingen and Dr. Cynthia Radosevich; one grandson; one son, Keith Miller; and one brother, Russell D. Swearingen Jr.
Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, with the rosary recited at 5 p.m. Sunday at Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home in Morrison. The funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Mary Catholic Church in Morrison, with the Rev. Slawomir Zimodro, pastor of St. Mary Catholic Church and the Rev. William R. Antillon, pastor of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Marengo, co-officiating. A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Kewanee.
A memorial has been established by the family.
