Amboy High School’s October Student of the Month is Justin Hart, 17, of Amboy.

Justin Hart, 17, of Amboy, is Amboy High School’s October Student of the Month. His father is the late Gary Hart, his mother is Karen Metzen, and his stepfather is Bill Metzen. Hart has two step-sisters, Sammi Metzen and Brittany Esses.

Favorite class? Any math class.

Least favorite class? Definitely any science class.

Favorite teacher? Dinger (Mrs. Cynthia Carlson). She always keeps class exciting and interesting even if we’re learning something that might not particularly be fun. She also gives us many life lessons that can be applied to the real world as we move past high school.

School activities participate in? Basketball, baseball, football, National Honor Society, and Spanish Honor Society.

Volunteer activities in which you participate? I played Taps at military funerals for several years.

Do you have a job? I am a lifeguard at Woodhaven Lakes during the summer.

How would you describe your group of friends? We are very comical, but also very weird, which makes for a great time.

What will you do after high school? I plan to play college basketball while I earn a degree in sociology. I will go into the field of criminal justice with that major.

What is something you learned in high school that you think you’ll never use? Law of Conservation of Mass.

What kind of music are you listening to? What I listen to varies based on my mood, but usually I listen to rap.

What’s one thing in your life you can’t do without? Definitely sports. As busy as they keep me, I couldn’t imagine not having them.

What is your advice for surviving high school? Don’t fall behind, because more and more work will continue to be added to the pile.

If you could change one thing about your school, what would it be? I would get air conditioning, because it’s rough sitting in sweat during class.

What scares you? Spiders. They are absolutely terrifying.

If you could try any job for the day, what would it be? I would be a professional athlete. I think i’d be cool to be a known public figure, but also learn the stress and struggles that go along with it.

If you could go anywhere in the world for free, where would it be? Italy.

What is a good book you have read recently? “Toughness,” by ESPN basketball analyst Jay Bilas.

What is your proudest moment? The work ethic that I’ve maintained in order to have the grades I do, while still being a three-sport athlete.

Who is your hero or role model? My dad. He taught me to never give up on anything I do in life, no matter the circumstance.

What do you think your life will be like 10 years from now? I will have a happy family, and will have a good job that will allow me to support my children and wife.

Is there anything else you want people to know about you? I’m very interested in history, or any social studies class. I think knowing about our past is very important for our future.

What is your life’s philosophy? Don’t believe the negative things people have to say about you, because it’ll only bring you down. Just go out and do your own thing.

Shout out to: My sister, Lindsay. As much as we argue and make fun of eachother, she is my biggest supporter, and I really don’t know what I would do without her.

What is your favorite ...
