Claire Grace Coffman, 17, of Ashton, daughter of Denise Coffman, is Ashton-Franklin Center’s December Student of the Month.
Favorite class: Chemistry, because I find it interesting and necessary for my future profession.
Least-favorite class: P.E., because I do not like to run.
Favorite teacher: Kelly Viall, because she is a very friendly and relatable teacher. Also, Travis Stauffer because he makes me think about topics I would not normally think about and enjoys discussing current topics in the media.
School activities in which you participate: Senior class president, National Honor Society vice president, yearbook staff
Civic, church, volunteer or activities in which you participate: I help youth at my church, and I volunteer at the Ashton Community Walk, which raises funds for people in need in the Ashton-Franklin Grove area.
How would you describe your group of friends? Active, adventurous, supportive, caring, and fun
What will you do after high school? I plan to attend Sauk Valley Community College to major in radiology technology.
What is something you learned in high school that you think you’ll never use? Geometry
What kind of music are you listening to? Modern pop
What’s one thing in your life you can’t do without? My phone, because I love being able to communicate with loved ones at any time.
What is your advice for surviving high school? Build relationships with your teachers. They will help you out when you need it if you have a good relationship with them.
If you could change one thing about your school, what would it be? I wish we could provide the students with a home economics class.
What scares you? Being separated from people I care about.
If you could try any job for the day, what would it be? FBI agent, because I think it would be an exciting, busy job.
If you could go anywhere in the world for free, where would it be? Ireland, because it looks like a beautiful place to visit.
What is a good book you have read recently? “To Kill A Mockingbird” by Harper Lee
What is your proudest moment? Finding out I am fourth (academically) in my class. I have worked very hard the last 4 years to get to this spot.
Who is your hero and role model? My mother
What do you think your life will be like 10 years from now? I hope to own my dream home and have a stable, happy life.
What is your life’s philosophy? Never stop pursing your dreams; be kind; smile often; take a lot of pictures to make the good moments last forever.
