DIXON – William R. “Bill” Cooper, 93, of Dixon, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2018, at Heritage Square Health Center in Dixon.
He was born Dec. 8, 1924, in Dixon, to Russell and Lillian (Stainbrook) Cooper. Bill married Mary Joan Hooker on Aug. 17, 1947, in Dixon. She preceded him in death on Jan. 28, 2008. Bill was a meat cutter at Eagle Country Market before his retirement. He was a member of St. Anne Catholic Church in Dixon.
Bill served in the Army during World War II with deployments to Okinawa, the Philippines, and Saipan. He was awarded a Purple Heart, Bronze Star, and Philippine Liberation Medal for his service.
Bill is survived by two sons, Russell (Donna) Cooper of Medford, Oregon, and Ted (Deb) Cooper of Dixon; two grandchildren, Matt and Megan Cooper of Dixon; nieces, Jan (Tom) Leggett, Lynn Camery, and Joan Camery, all of Dixon; nephew, Rob (Kristi) Camery and their children, Jeni and Nick of Batavia.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Marilyn Camery.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, and the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Anne Catholic Church in Dixon, with Father Thomas Doyle officiating. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Dixon, with military honors accorded by the Dixon combined veterans group. Jones Funeral Home in Dixon is handling arrangements.
