Action for a Better Tomorrow – Sauk Valley will host a series of speakers on a wide range of engaging topics this winter.
All events will take place at noon on Wednesdays at the Lee County Democratic Party Headquarters, 77 S. Hennepin, Dixon.
On Jan. 10, Ben Ruddell, director of Criminal Justice Policy for the American Civil Liberties Union, will present “Where Criminal Justice Stands in 2018.”
On Jan. 17, Denise McCaffrey-Ehrmann will speak on the role of the Lee County circuit clerk.
On Jan. 24, Chicago civil rights attorney Maaria Mozaffar will deliver a speech titled, “The Heart of the Matter: Fear of Demographic Change.”
Linda Wegner, a member of the Dixon school board, will give an update on the local school board on Jan. 31.
On Feb. 7, Neill Mohammad, health care consultant and candidate for the Democratic nomination for the 16th Congressional District, will update residents on the state of health care policy.
In honor of Valentine’s Day, Feb. 14, Susan Kleiman will present “For the Love of the Earth” on environmental challenges.
And finally, on Feb. 21, Nancy Mayfield of Maquoketa, Iowa, will speak on “Freedom of the Press in the Current Political Climate.” Nancy and her husband, Trevis, previously worked for local media sources.
