Local roundup: Dukes rally past Grant

Warriors wrestle at inaugural Illinois-Iowa duals

The Dixon Dukes improved to 1-1 at the Hinkle Holiday Classic in Algonquin, rallying past Fox Lake Grant 37-35 on Saturday evening at Jacobs High School.

Oscar Van Sickle hit four 3-pointers for 12 points, and Beau Bailey added 11 for the Dukes, including the game-winning free throws in the final minute. Dixon trailed 16-6 after one quarter, 21-17 at halftime, and 33-28 after three quarters before coming back to win.

Wrestling

Sterling 3-2 in Davenport: The Golden Warriors went to the inaugural Muddy Water Duals on Saturday at Davenport (Iowa) North High School, and came home with a 3-2 record in five dual meets – all against Iowa teams.

Sterling defeated Davenport Central 57-21, Davenport West 66-16 and Davenport North 58-15, and lost to Bettendorf co-op 48-19 and Pleasant Valley 36-35.

Julian Rodriguez (113 pounds) and Isaiah Figueroa (138) both wrestled in all five duals, and both went 5-0. Figueroa had four pins and a decision win, while Rodriguez had three major decisions, a pin and a decision.

Noah Garcia (132) and Moises Lopez (182) both went 4-0 on the day, with Lopez notching three pins and a decision, and Garcia winning two pins and two decisions. Each also received a forfeit win.

Turner Garcia (160/170) and JJ Thompson (195) went 3-1 and had three pins each, and Brayden Porter (120) was 2-1 with two pins and two forfeits.
