Congratulations are in order to the Dixon Fire Department and Chief Tim Shipman, and Dixon Rural Fire Department and Chief Sid Aurand on the recent Insurance Services Office (ISO) classification improvement from a 4 to a 3 rating.
The willingness of both departments to plan, train and work in conjunction has once again rewarded the Dixon community with a better rating from the last improvement in 2011. Governments work best when they work together, and these coordinated efforts may have resulted in lower insurance premiums for homes and commercial properties in the Dixon community.
Dixon has long been blessed to have paramedic-level emergency ambulance service that wasn’t always in common in communities of our size. These highly trained and skilled medical professionals are able to rapidly initiate some of the duties of a physician and can sometimes examine, evaluate, and treat patients with equipment and medications usually only found in the emergency department of a hospital.
The Dixon community has two great fire departments working as one, and that is a benefit to all of us. I’d like to formally thank them for their efforts and suggest you do the same if you happen to encounter any of them.
