STERLING – Estela G. Escamilla, 88, of Sterling, died Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2017, at CGH Medical Center in Sterling.

Estela was born Feb. 15, 1929, in San Benito, Texas, the daughter of Richard and Josephine (Avila) Garza. She married Bernabe Escamilla on May 29, 1948, in San Benito. He preceded her in death on Feb. 14, 1993. 

Survivors include three daughters, Yolanda (Gary) Clayes of Morrison, Mary (Ron) Pannebaker of Dallas, and Lydia Escamilla of Sterling; two sons, Benny (Mary) Escamilla of Sterling and Bernie and (Ellen) Escamilla of Chillicothe; two brothers, Richard (Margaret) Garza and Herman Garza, both of San Antonio; 16 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

She also was preceded in death by one son, Ray Escamilla; one granddaughter; and two grandsons.

Visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. Saturday, with the rosary at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Schilling Funeral Home and Cremation in Sterling. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary Catholic Church in Sterling, with the Rev. Adalberto Sanchez officiating. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Sterling.

A memorial has been established.
