DIXON – The Lee County coroner has been called to the scene of what the Sheriff's Department has confirmed is an explosion that occurred around 9 a.m., when a natural gas pipeline was ruptured on a farm midway between Dixon and Franklin Grove.

The gas company is on scene, and the state fire marshal's office will be investigating, a department spokeswoman said. She did not know the name of the company.

U.S. Route 38 between Nachusa and Robbins roads is closed, and police and fire crews from multiple agencies also are on scene.

No other information is being released at this time.
