The Newman girls basketball team fell at home to Princeton in a Three Rivers East matchup 54-45 on Thursday.
Newman led 16-9 after one quarter before Princeton scored 24 points in the second quarter to take a 33-28 halftime lead.
The Comets got 10 points each from Lauren Wilson and Payton
Murray. Delaney Hinrichs,
Lauren Wilson, Hannah Wilson
and Chloe Klein all had six rebounds as the teams were even, 41-41 on the boards.
Anna Murray had 20 points and 13 rebounds for the Tigresses.
Orangeville 64, Polo 59: Alex Dusing was a force to be reckoned with for the Marcos as she scored 29 points and grabbed 20 rebounds in the losing effort.
She scored 17 of those points in the fourth quarter as the Marcos tried to rally back from a 49-34 deficit after three.
Rilley Peterson added nine points for Polo, and Cassie Bushman scored eight.
Bureau Valley 43, St. Bede 37: The Storm went on the road and came away with a Three Rivers East win.
The game was tied 18-18 at halftime before Bureau Valley pulled ahead to lead 31-28 after three. The Storm added to the lead with 12 points in the fourth quarter.
Saige Barnett led the way with 19 points for the Storm, hitting 10-for-16 from the free throw line. Emily Fordham added 10 points.
Sherrard 35, Fulton 23: The Steamers were unable to get past Sherrard in their home opener.
Rockridge 37, Morrison 32: The Rockets outscored the Fillies 12-2 in the fourth quarter to take the come-from-behind win in
Rockridge led 12-8 after one quarter, and the game was tied 20-20 at halftime before Morrison scored 10 points in the third quarter to take the lead.
Prophetston 57, Kewanee 26: The Prophets cruised to a conference win at home.
Eastland 57, Stockton 41: Ethan Christians scored 21 points to lead the Cougars to an NUIC win at home.
Brighton Haverland added 15 points.
Eastland led 26-24 at halftime, then held the Blackhawks to nine points in the third quarter and eight in the fourth.
Sterling 47, Morris 18: The
Golden Warriors got pins from Isaiah Figueroa (138 pounds), Michael Jackley (145), Nick Simester (152), Ethan Edmondson (170) and Cade Lyons (220) in a win at Musgrove Fieldhouse.
Julian Rodriguez won at 126 pounds via tech fall. Turner Garcia won at 160 pounds with a 4-0 decision. Brayden Porter won at 120 pounds with a 5-0 decision. Moises Lopez took a 1-0 decision in his 195-pound bout.
Panthers sweep: In a 70-9 win over Princeton, 10 matches ended with an Erie-Prophetstown wrestler pinning his opponent.
Carter Jepson (106 pounds), Cameron Abell (113), Chris Bonnell (126), Caleb Swearingen (132), Owen Abell (145), Calvin Naftzger (152), Mat Garrison (170), Gabe Friedrichsen (182), Mack Foy (220) and Lucas Carey (285) all scored pins, with Bonnell earning his in just 30 seconds.
In a 57-19 win over Morrison, Cameron Abell, Bonnell and Foy all won via pin in the first period. The Mustangs got a win when Kyle Roberts pinned Swearingen at 138 pounds in 2:22, and another when Reilly Dolan earned a 9-5 decision over Naftzger at 152 pounds.
