Bessie I. Sexton

STERLING – Bessie Irene Sexton, 79, of Sterling, died Thursday, Nov. 9, 2017, at Sterling Pavilion Nursing Home. 

Bessie was born Aug. 20, 1938, in Ozark, Arkansas, the daughter of Clemia and Minnie (Bryson) Tillery. She married Dennison Sexton on May 26, 1956, in Arkansas. He preceded her in death on March 8, 2016. Bessie was a homemaker all her life, and enjoyed reading and writing. She would collect clippings from the newspaper or magazines, lottery tickets, teddy bears, and keychains. Bessie loved spending time with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and her granddogs, Zoey and Sammy.

Survivors include her three sons, Clifford (Patricia) Sexton of Rock Falls, Kenneth (Denise) Sexton of Sterling, and Cecil Sexton of Poplar Grove; her daughter, Sandra Jenkins of Chester; two sisters, Lottie (Billy) O’Neal and Clara Owen, both of Ozark, Arkansas; two grandchildren, Mathew (Alicia Aguilar) Sexton and Joshua (Chaley Lamb) Sexton; and four great-grandchildren, Makenzi Doane, Madelyn and Makalie Sexton, and Gabriella Sexton. 

She also was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Dorothy and Katherine; and one brother, Joe.

A gathering of family and friends will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, and the memorial service at 11 a.m. Monday at McDonald Funeral Home in Rock Falls.
