Want to send some holiday cheer to an Illinois soldier? Here's how

Illinois first lady Diana Rauner on Wednesday announced the start of the 2017 Holiday Card Drive for the Military. It allows residents to send holiday cards to Illinoisans serving the military overseas.

The project is being done in partnership with the United Service Organizations (USO) of Illinois, the Illinois Department of Veterans’ Affairs and the Illinois Executive Mansion Association.

Cards can be mailed now through Nov. 20 to USO of Illinois – Cards for Heroes, 333 S. Wabash Ave., 16th Floor, Chicago, IL, 60604.

Cards also can be dropped off at a local Illinois Department of Veterans’ Affairs Veteran Service Office. Office locations can be found at illinois.gov/veterans. In Springfield, the office is at 833 S. Spring St.
