DIXON – Bright Beginnings, a nondenominational Christian daycare and preschool, is expanding to accommodate more children in its after-school program.
The school at 1033 Franklin Grove Road will break ground at noon Sunday on a 2,240-square-foot addition that will house 30 to 40 elementary schoolchildren, and also serve as a multipurpose space, said the Rev. David Schweppe, pastor at nearby Immanuel Lutheran Church, which runs the facility.
The after-school program now has 30 students and a waiting list, Schweppe said.
The addition, which is expected to cost about $150,000, should be done in the spring, and is slated to open in the fall, he said. About $100,000 has been raised so far.
Bright Beginnings is open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., and is licensed to serve children from 6 weeks to 12 years. The preschool is for ages 3 to 5.
According to its website, the school's mission is to provide "quality education while teaching basic Christian values" through the teaching of "nondenominational, Biblical principles."
"All children are immersed in a Christian atmosphere, pray before meals and snacks, and participate in Christian artwork, games, and discussion. Preschool and school-age children participate weekly in 'Jesus Time' with Pastor from Immanuel Lutheran Church," the website says.
